The North American Automobile Trade Association (NAATA)/American Automotive Shippers Association (AASA) is of the opinion that it is important for you to know how we treat your personal information. This privacy policy explains why we collect personal information as well as how we handle that information on our web site and at our office.

With your consent, we may gather personal information from you in person, at our office, over the telephone, or by corresponding with you via mail or on the Internet through NAATA/AASA’s website. The type of information we may collect about you is based upon your dealings with NAATA/AASA. The information we may collect includes your name, contact information, correspondence with us, comments questions about our organization and financial information required to attend our events or engage in financial transactions with us, such as becoming a member of our association.

Typically, the personal information collected about you is used by NAATA/AASA to confirm your identity, to respond to your inquiries/comments, to send you information about the vehicle import and export industry, to comply with our legal obligations and generally to provide members and the public with services and information requested. We provide information to you only upon request and you may opt-out of the receipt of information at any time after you have requested information on an ongoing basis.

Personal information you provide is also used by NAATA to process financial transactions where appropriate, such as payment of membership dues and to register delegates for conferences and events.

At times, we may conduct surveys. If you choose to participate in such surveys, we will use the information you provide to better understand your needs and the needs of users of companies and persons engaged in the import and export of motor vehicles across international borders.

Sharing of personal information

NAATA/AASA does not share personal information with any third parties, except as necessary for the purposes for which the information has been provided by you.

If you choose to provide personal information to NAATA/AASA, we assume that you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information as outlined in this privacy policy or otherwise at the time of collection, use or disclosure. If you do not consent, please do not provide your personal information or, where applicable, exercise the opt-in or opt-out options offered. There are limited instances where NAATA/AASA may collect, use or disclose your personal information without your consent as required or permitted by law, complying with tax and corporate legislation for example.  Consent may be express or implied depending on the circumstances.

Retention of personal information

NAATA/AASA will destroy, erase or render anonymous personal information no longer required for the stated purposes or for a legal or legitimate business requirement.

NAATA/AASA takes precautions to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, disclosure, inappropriate alternation, and misuse. All safety and security measures are appropriate to the sensitivity level of your information. Access to your personal information is restricted to those persons whose job responsibilities require them to have access. Given that electronically transmitted data is not 100 percent secure, we make no warranties as to the security of any such information that you submit, which you do at your own risk.

How you can protect your information

There are a number of measures you can take to protect yourself against fraud and uninvited intrusion. From time to time, NAATA/AASA engages in research surveys or promotional campaigns via telephone, mail and e-mail. If you are unsure or suspect that a person requesting information via a survey or promotional campaign may not be legitimate, please call us at 905-882-7040 to verify that the request is a legitimate NAATA/AASA activity.

Access and correction of personal information

Should you identify any incorrect or out-of-date information, please notify us so that we can make the required changes where appropriate.

Cookies, IP addresses, and links to other sites

A technology called cookies may be used to provide you with tailored information. NAATA/AASA’s site logs IP addresses, but not the e-mail addresses, of visitors. NAATA/AASA uses this aggregated information to measure the use of our site and to improve the content and usage of our site.

While we try to link only to sites that share our high standards and respect for privacy, we are not responsible for the content or the privacy practices employed by other sites.
